121, A Celtic Prayer of confidence in God’s love
As the rain hides the stars, as the autumn mist hides the hills, as the clouds veil the blue of the sky, so the dark happenings of my lot hide the shining of they face from me. Yet, if I may hold thy hand in the darkness it is enough. Since I know that, though I may stumble in my going, thou dost not fall.

119, prayer for the day from Gordon MacLean, Friday 24 July 2020
May God the Father who created us and who knows our innermost thoughts wash away our sins and give us new life.
May God the Son who walks by our side and who shares our sorrows and our joys look with compassion upon all our doings.
May God the Holy Spirit who inspires humankind with the power and goodness of God fill our lives with hope and with love, that we may walk for ever in the radiant brightness of the High King of Heaven in peace and in Joy.
Amen
118, St Mary Magdalene
Stained Glass Window, Christchurch Latchingdon,
Today is the feast day of St Mary Magdalen. And this stained-glass window shows the story of the first Easter Day when Mary Magdalene, coming to the garden tomb to think and pray is distraught when she finds the tomb empty. She believes that the body of Jesus has been removed and in tears turns to a nearby figure, thinking him to be a gardener. She asks, ‘Where have you laid my Lord?’ The man responds with one word, her name ‘Mary’ and at once she knows that it is Jesus. Then he asks her to take the good news of his resurrection to the disciples.
Mary Magdalene was only one of a number of women who followed Jesus and supported his ministry from their own resources. Only the women and St John, were around him at the crucifixion, supporting Mary the mother of Jesus. Mary Magdalene is sometimes known as the Apostle to the Apostles as she was the first person to carry the news of the resurrection to them as they cowered away in hiding after the crucifixion.
Prayer for the feast day of St Mary Magdalene
On this day when we recall the discipleship of St Mary Magdalene, we remember, eternal Father, that it is your joy to call men and women to serve you across the barriers of race, language and culture. We ask you to give them strength and courage and satisfy their longing to make known the good news of Jesus Christ.Bless those who area called to serve and support but not to lead. When they face danger, save them from fear; When they are disheartened, be their friend; When they think they have failed show them the cross;Give them peace in their hearts, and peace in their homes, and the joy of acceptance by those whom they serve. For Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen

Sunset over the Crouch and an evening prayer from the little known English Poet, Henry Kirke White, 1785-1806.
And now, O blessed redeemer, our rock, our hope, and only sure defence, to thee do we cheerfully commit both our soul and body. If thy wise providence see fit, grant that we may rise in the morning, refreshed with sleep, and with a spirit of activity for the duties of the day, but whether we wake here or in eternity grant that our trust in thee may remain sure, and our hope unshaken, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
